Most Halloween fanatics were turned off by the 1982 picture "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" because Myers isn't in it as he was in Halloween and Halloween 2.
John Carpenter hoped that Halloween III: Season of the Witch would be the start of a series of short films. each year around Halloween, a new film could come out that tells a different story. It was a fantastic concept, and I wish they could have done more with it. It didn't work out, though.
Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) is at the heart of a mystery when a patient he was caring for is killed with a Halloween mask at the hospital.
Dr. Challis visits the Silver Shamrock Company in Santa Mira, California, with the deceased man's daughter, Ellie (Stacey Nelkin). The company's marketing strategy (including a catchy melody) has sold millions of masks.
(The Silver Shamrock plant was formerly occupied by a milk processing facility.)
They're also encouraging youngsters to watch a special Halloween night program while still dressed up. When Dr. Challis and Ellie dig more into the situation, they discover that Conal Cochran (Dan O'Herlihy), the CEO of Silver Shamrock, is planning something that would result in thousands, if not millions, of innocent fatalities.
Despite the fact that there are a few brief scenes in Halloween 3: Season of the Witch in which the original Halloween film plays on television, there is no connection between the first two Halloween films. Even if there is no connection to Michael Myers, Dr. Loomis, Laurie Strode, or Haddonfield, IL, the movie is still entertaining to watch.
Sure, the movie isn't flawless, but it does have some memorable passages. Cochran puts his diabolical strategy to the test on Buddy Kupfer's family (Ralph Strait), who sold so several masks that he was granted a premium tour of the facility.
Buddy's kid, Little Buddy (Brad Schacter), is confined to a tiny room and is watching the Halloween night show. While watching the show, things quickly spiral out of control, and the devastation you see will be one you will never forget. Conal Cochran's history lecture, in link to info which he discusses the actual roots of Halloween, is very notable.
I must admit that I like the Halloween franchise. They include the films that followed Halloween III: Season of the Witch, all of which starred Michael Myers once again (Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 are both solid horror films). However, I'm left wondering what tales Carpenter and Hill might have told if they had stuck to their original series idea. Carpenter devised the series' first concept.
I'm not a fan of Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Because of the number "3." I believed it was a sequel to the original.
Because I adored Halloween 3, I find it more impossible to accept the simple floundering's simple botch by Carpenter and Hill.
